Trinity Cycling Jerseys can be ordered via Mr Ryder, and the cost added to the fee account.
What equipment will I need to do this sport?
- You will need your own road (racing) bike. Both rim or Disc brakes are permitted in Cycling Victoria events. Mountain bikes or hybrid bikes are not suitable. What bike you choose is very personal! Carbon bikes are nice, but they can be fragile and expensive to repair if you drop them or crash. Carbon rims are not necessary. You may like the idea of a flash bike, but consider whether or not you want to spend a lot of money on a new bike as a beginner, and particularly if you are likely to grow out of it quickly. There are lots of second hand bikes for sale on Facebook groups (try: buy/sell road cycling victoria), or Gumtree etc. but be careful when buying second hand - get an expert to check the bike first and consider getting a carbon frame scanned for damage.
- Wheels - with either disc or rim brakes. Rim depth must not be more than 50 mm.
- Helmet (this is required by law - it must adhere to the Australian helmet standards)
- A bell or other warning device (also required by law)
- Front and rear lights (note a rear reflector is required by law, but general consensus is that a flashing rear light is a better option)
- Glasses (essential to protect you from wind / insects etc.)
- Cycling shoes and clipless pedals (training will be provided in using these)
- Trinity cycling top (ordered through the school - link below)
- Cycling bib shorts (plain black or Trinity branded supplied through the school)
- Specialist cycling socks (recommended) - black, white, or green and gold please. Alternatively, you can just wear your Trinity sports socks
- Spare inner tube, bike pump and tyre lever (essential to have your own)
- Cycling gloves (strongly recommended - essential protection if you ever fall off your bike)
- Water bidon and snack (there is no need to buy gels or other expensive sports snacks)
- Optional: Wind proof gilet / arm warmers / rain jacket (a nice option for colder rides / race warm-up)
