Race Review:
Beginning at 8:30, the first race of the season started at a brisk 15° which rose closer to 20° as the day progressed. The foreboding grey sky represented the looming threat of another rained-out ride, so many of which we have had in the last weeks, but fate was on our side as the roads stayed dry the entire time. Casey Fields, a notoriously windy course, also gave us its graces with winds staying around 5km/h the entire time (you can tell I opened the BOM to write this race review).
Starting us off at 9:43:30 and 9:44:00 both Derecks (or Dereks) unleashed their unbridled fury on the course followed quickly by Jacob and Daniel. Together they make up 4 of the 48 junior riders that started between 9:30 and 10:05, who each did 4 laps totalling 8.8km.
Then at 10:12:30, the seniors started off with veteran Jamie and went down the list (results below), and I watched each and every one of them give it their best. The course for seniors is 6 laps totalling 13.2km.
It was also a miracle, but somehow AusCycling stayed on time for the entire day, and senior male presentations occurred at around 11. Unfortunately, no one at Trinity managed to get on the podium, however, this is the race that decides the divisions, so many fewer medals are awarded than usual.
I would like to congratulate Sam on his school-topping performance averaging a blistering 40.4km/h average and coming 4th across the entire event. Here I was planning on awarding a "most improved" title to another rider, as we all knew Sam was going to be the quickest weeks ago, but I have been foiled as the most improved rider for this event goes to Sam as well, being 3.2km/h faster than last time, while also doing a 50% longer course.
I would also like to congratulate the riders for whom this was their first event for Trinity: Dereck Qian, Derek Qian, Jacob Wang, Andy Chen, Jeff Dai, and John Wang.
I would like to thank the parents and teachers that showed up, without them Trinity's participation in the event would not have been possible.

P.S. Please check out the excellent photo below of my co-captain Jamie as he races toward the finish line...

What to bring on the day:
- Bike - make sure tyres are pumped up, gears running smoothly etc.
- Helmet - must have an Australian standards sticker and no cracks.
- Race Licence - you will need to show this (or a printout of the email you received) when signing on at registration.
- Water Bidons - one bidon should be enough for the day, water will be available there. You may want to race with a little bit of water in your bidon but shouldn't need to drink much during your race.
- Food - food is usually available for purchase from a coffee cart, but I would recommend that you bring your own. There will be a lot of down time while you waiting for your start time and although the race is short it will be intense so healthy options that will fuel you on the day such as bananas, home made muesli bars, sandwiches are the best option. Please try to avoid using things such as gels, these simply aren't necessary for such an event when you have eaten properly before hand. A large breakfast is also recommended before you depart - e.g. porridge, muesli, eggs on toast.
- Chair or picnic rugs - i.e. Something to sit on while your there.
- Indoor trainer - if you have one you can bring it along, as it's useful for a warm up. The track is closed after 0900 for racers only.
- Tools etc. spare tube, tyre levers, pump. Everyone should be self-sufficient. A pair of wire cutters are very useful for cutting cable ties when attaching timing chips to bikes...
